A super-tight girdle traditionally worn after liposuction surgery is enjoying a revival among New York’s style set.

The faja, originally created more than 50 years ago in Colombia, works like a corset that shifts a woman’s organs and flesh in order to create the much-coveted hourglass silhouette made popular in recent years by Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks.

But unlike other popular shapewear on the market, many believe that the restrictive garment is too extreme for daily use.

Body shaping: The faja, a garment that is used by post-lipo patients, is becoming popular among women. It was first seen more than 50 years ago but was rejected by the fashion world

Jean Pierre Velez of Colfajas, a Colombian-based exporter, told The New York Times that his U.S. distribution rates increased by 47per cent last year.

He shipped 60,000 fajas in total which was ‘thousands more than in past years.’

The faja, which takes its name from the Spanish word for wrap, was widely rejected by clothing retailers in the Seventies as it was considered too extreme as well as a symbol for anti-feminism at the time.

Up until recently, it had been predominantly used as a medical garment to help keep the skin of liposuction patients tight as it healed.

The new demand is believed to have been fuelled by the Latin American women living in Queens, who use the faja as a body contouring device.

Monica Arias, a Long island importer of the garment, said: ‘In the beginning it was almost only for Latinos and black women. Now the white people are asking for fajas.’

Lisa Cipriani, the owner of Caralinda Mis Fajas in Queens, told the paper that the garment is especially popular among younger women.

She said: ‘I’m from the Seventies; we rejected it. This is the new generation and this is an option.’

She claimed that a faja can suck a stomach in so tight that a wearer may lose their appetite as a result.

Fajas are even popular among slender women who might seemingly not need any shaping undergarments.

Moussa Belaghi, who owns the Aishti store in Jackson Heights, Queens, added: ‘Only chubby fat girls used to use this; now everybody is.

‘If she has the smallest little thing at her waist, she wants to use this.’

Full-body jumpsuits and tight belly bands are just two of the varieties on offer to men as well as women.

It can cost anywhere from $20 to $70 and is available in a variety of fabrics including Lycra, cotton, nylon and latex.

Directed by Eif Rivera, the nearly eight-minute long video plays out like a mini movie.

Kris Kristofferson tops 50th anniversary UFW concert tour

Kris Kristofferson will headline half a dozen concerts across California in June to raise money and awareness for the United Farm Workers in recognition of the union?s 50th anniversary this year.

The singer and songwriter will be joined by a variety of support acts in different cities, including Los Lobos, Nydia Rojas, Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, Los Texmaniacs featuring Mingo Saldivar, and Mariachi Divas, all of whom are donating their services to benefit the UFW.

The week-long tour opens June 15 at the Spreckels Theatre in San Diego, where Kristofferson will be joined by Mariachi Divas, and continues with stops June 16 in Fresno (Rojas with Trio Ellas), June 16 in Stockton (support act to be arranged), June 19 in Bakersfield (Los Lobos), June 21 in Oxnard (Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano) and June 22 in San Jose (Los Texmaniacs).

?It?s an honor for me to share my talent with an organization such as the UFW and its cause of advancing the lives of thousands of workers that put food on all of our tables,? Kristofferson said in a statement. ?Joining forces with renowned Latino performers through these special performances offers fans great music with a great cause.?

Other activities will be part of the UFW?s 50th anniversary convention being held Thursday through Sunday in Bakersfield. Details on the UFW?s website.

Lisa Marie Presley tunes in to her roots with ?Storm & Grace?

With a little help from T Bone Burnett, Lisa Marie Presley gets back to bluesy-country basics in ?Storm & Grace? and breaks free from outside expectations.

Lisa Marie Presley doesn?t seem to mind that everyone in the penthouse office of Simon Fuller?s XIX Entertainment in West Hollywood can see her when she extends both of her middle fingers in the direction of a reporter.

She used the gesture to exemplify how she felt about being asked to promote a ?sexier image? at one point in her career. But for a woman whose life has been defined by public scrutiny, the move spoke volumes. Presley, 44, is done trying to live up to expectations that aren?t her own.

More proof? Her first album in seven years, ?Storm & Grace? (out this week) finds Presley singing, ?She got no talent of her own, it?s just her name,? on deluxe-edition track ?Sticks and Stones,? her voice a painful wail while slide guitars whisk around her like unseen demons. In ?Un-Break,? Presley wonders whether she was once a ?backstabbing liar? and is only getting what she deserves against the sound of shuffling western-gothic grooves.

The album, her first for Universal Republic, may serve as a career reboot, but it also brings her back to her family roots, pairing her dusty, robust vocals with moody country and blues accents made famous by the Sun Studio recording house that captured the voice of her father. The stripped-down affair is produced by T Bone Burnett, an artist with a reputation for possessing a reverential, encyclopedic view of the American songbook.

It?s a far cry from Presley?s last album ? a polished affair marked by glossy, Top 40 guitars and studio-enhanced vocals. ?Yeah, I know,? Presley interrupts talk about the slick nature of her last release. ?I was behind that. I tried to smooth it over, to hide behind it. I wanted louder guitars. I wanted the vocals tripled. All that.?

?I was insulated,? Presley says of that time, adding that she surrounded herself with a team of friends and employees who told her only what she wanted to hear.

?There was a scene woven around me that I had helped weave,? she says. ?It was a personal scene — employees, friends. It was an entourage. That?s all a big mistake. It?s all the stuff that happens to a typical L.A., high-profile??

Presley trails off and waves her hand, palm up, as if to say, ?You know, that scene.? But no one really does. After all, Elvis, the King of Rock ?n? Roll, had but one daughter, and it?s not many who see their childhood home in Memphis, Tenn., become an internationally renown tourist attraction. That says nothing of Presley?s penchant for dominating the tabloids in her late 20s and early 30s, largely due to her short-lived marriage to Michael Jackson.

After releasing and promoting ?Now What,? Presley embarked on a research project: herself. While certainly not ignorant of what was said and written about her — specifically the outside expectations of how she was or wasn?t living up to her last name — Presley says she was shielded from much of it.

?I went through a period where I was so upset at how obscured I had been from all of that,? she says. ?I intentionally sought out everything bad that was written about me. If you?re looking for it, you?re going to get it.?

?Storm & Grace? gives it right back. First single ?You Ain?t Seen Nothin? Yet? is a casual statement of defiance, a tough little saunter of a song in which a spiteful Presley talks about bucking the system. Later, the brushed rhythms and echoing chimes of ?So Long? seem to emerge from a cemetery fog, with Presley, just above a whisper, telling off ?fair-weather friends? and churches that ?don?t have a soul.?

Ask Presley, who once spoke openly and favorably of the Church of Scientology, for more details on her lyrics, and she?ll keep things vague. The songs, and particularly the first single, she says, are ?about finding out what your mother or your parents or your counselor or your therapist or your teacher or your priest really think about you, and finding out they [don?t think highly] of you, actually.? Her words, however, were a bit more colorful.

When Burnett heard the track ?Un-Break,? he agreed to produce the album. ?I was struck by how real she was in some of the songs,? he says. ?It was sung in an incredibly unaffected way. I love when a singer sings like Sinatra, when it?s conversational. That?s the greatest challenge in singing, and she did that.?

The album was brought to Burnett by Fuller, Presley?s manager who is best-known for creating the ?American Idol? franchise but also works with a host of more idiosyncratic artists, including Annie Lennox and local independent R&B singer Aloe Blacc. It was Fuller who encouraged Presley to retreat to England, where she now lives, and suggested she collaborate on songwriting with Pulp guitarist Richard Hawley and singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt.

Presley says it was a conscious effort to avoid her earlier tendency to ?jack up? the production. Though she likes the songs on her first two albums, she was uncomfortable with everything that came along with selling them, and now regrets having been placed ?in some category with other pop/rock stars.?

?If I?m pushed somewhere,? Presley says, ?I?ll go the other way. So when someone came backstage and told me to dress sexy, I went out and wore giant combat boots and safety pins and did whatever I could to not be sexy.?

If the line between Burnett and her father isn?t direct, it does exist. Burnett worked with Elvis contemporary Roy Orbison, and recorded with Elvis? TCB Band on records he produced with Elvis Costello.

?I have to say, I very much wanted to make a record her dad would have dug,? Burnett says. ?That was important to me. I wanted to make a record everybody would dig, but especially him, for some reason. He?s such an inspirational figure. She?s part of our royal family.?

There?s no irony, Burnett says, in Presley retreating to England to reconnect with a sound that draws from her roots. He clarifies that she had to ?disconnect with those other American roots,? the ones that encouraged her to chase pop stardom. Presley phrases it as a search for something she?s never really known: normalcy.

?When I moved to England I would hang out at the local pub, and they were such good people there,? Presley says. ?They knew right from wrong. If someone came in and was drunk and acting like a jerk, they?d get thrown out. There was common sense. I needed to be around people with common sense.?

Jennifer Aniston reportedly cares, or doesn’t, about engagement

Desire for a reaction from Jennifer Aniston to news of Brad Pitt’s engagement to Angelina Jolie is as inevitable as the bloodlust for the wedding date and celebrity guest list ? but the ex-wife in question might be even harder to pin down.

“She doesn’t care,” E! Online says, citing a source close to Jen. “She really doesn’t. She’s happy with Justin [Theroux]. She’ll probably marry him. She’s moved on. People don’t want to believe it, but she has.”

The report goes on to say Aniston was even in the company of Theroux when the news hit, Friday the 13th. ”She was happy and hanging out with her man,” the source added.

Then we have another Aniston pal dropping Hollywood Life a gem bigger than Angelina’s massive diamond.

“Jennifer is happy for Brad and Angelina. She is so in love with Justin, that she is really grateful how things turned out…if it weren?t for Angelina, Jennifer would not have connected with Justin in a romantic way,” the website claims.

“Jennifer is in a really wonderful place right now. I wouldn?t be surprised if she even went to their wedding.”

Manny Pacquiao — ‘I’m NOT Against Gay People’

Manny Pacquiao says he DOES NOT believe gay people should be put to death … and blames the media for twisting his words about his stance on gay marriage.

Manny has been under fire ever since the National Conservative Examiner published an interview in which Pacquiao says gay marriage is against the will of God.

The Examiner article includes a reference to Leviticus 20:13 — which says gays “must be put to death.” But now the journalist who conducted the interview is admitting Pacquiao NEVER specifically referenced that bible verse.

Pacquiao has now released a statement saying, “I didn?t say that, that?s a lie … I didn?t know that quote from Leviticus because I haven?t read the Book of Leviticus yet.”

He continues, “I?m not against gay people … I have a relative who is also gay. We can?t help it if they were born that way.”

Still, Manny says he’s AGAINST same-sex marriage — “What I?m critical off [sic] are actions that violate the word of God. I only gave out my opinion that same sex marriage is against the law of God.?

Manny Pacquiao — Hits Boxing Gym After ‘Death to Gays’ Controversy

Hours after a report surfaced in which Manny Pacquiao insinuated that all gay people should be put to death … the boxer rolled over to his L.A. gym … where he was SWARMED by adoring fans.

Manny ignited a media firestorm yesterday over an interview with National Conservative Examiner. Manny was asked about Obama’s stance on gay marriage … and he quoted Leviticus 20:13.

“If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

After the report surfaced, Manny was reportedly banned from The Grove in L.A. — where he was supposed to do an interview with Mario Lopez from “Extra.”

Instead, Manny hit the gym … cheered on by his fans.

A rep for “Extra” tells us the interview has been rescheduled to a different location.

So, we gotta ask …
